Indoor Mold

Molds, also referred to as mildew, can be found in most environments. They release spores into the air and are among the widest living organisms. Molds grow best in dark, moist areas where there is little circulation.

To control indoor mold:

  • Fix all water leaks and damp areas associated with mold growth.
  • Use a dehumidifier, especially in the basement area.
  • Reduce the humidity in your house to 50% or lower
  • Keep windowsills dry and free of mold.
  • Check the air conditioner filters once a month. Clean permanent filters every three months.
  • Keep bathroom walls, floor, tub tile and shower curtain dry and clean.
  • Keep live plants out of the bedroom.
  • Remove carpeting from bathroom, laundry room and other potential wet areas.
